C&J authors report on the role of education in community reform

In this report entitled Rebuilding Communities: Education’s Central Role in Mobilizing Community Reform, author Gene Maeroff explains how Say Yes to Education (SYTE) has partnered with the city of Syracuse, Syracuse University, and many community organizations to prepare more students to attend and excel in college.  At the heart of the program is a promise that all qualifying high school graduates can attend college tuition-free.  Along with being good for the students, Say Yes and city leadership believe such an investment is critical to the economic prospects of Syracuse as a whole.  Maeroff documents the development of the SYTE model in Syracuse and thereby provides a roadmap for other cities as they consider how to implement a community revitalization effort using education as the lever.
